The optional parameter allows to specify a minimum feature size (in units of length, c.f., UnitOfLength). During mesh generation, areas which are situated between parallel segments separated by less than the minimum feature size will not be meshed following certain quality constraints (constrained Delaunay algorithm). This allows, e.g., for meshing of very thin layers with relatively few, very sharp triangles.
